The inmate's full legal name (spelled correctly). Nicknames won't work. Their date of birth, if you have it — this speeds up matches when several people share a name. A booking number, if you already have one. That's it. The search is free and public.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office runs the only official inmate search, called the "Who's In Custody" / In-Custody Report. Start at the Sheriff's Corrections page and follow the link to the public custody search.
